Hong Jungpyo (B.1976) experiments with the boundaries between everyday life and art and conceptually expresses fundamental concerns regarding contemporary art and artistic behavior. In his series 'The Hidden Edge,’ the artist’s initial plan to create a square frame is continuously sabotaged by rules made by Hong himself. In the end the finished piece is a far cry from its original image, the constant modifications and supplements forming something entirely new. Although the ‘frame’ has lost its former functions, but has been reborn as an object of pure formative beauty. This is the moment Hong Jungpyo asks the question, ‘What is art?’
Hong Jungpyo received both B.F.A. and M.F.A. from Hongik University's College of Fine Arts. Hong has held multiple solo shows during his career, including exhibitions as the Pyo Gallery, Post Territory Ujeongguk, and 313 Art Project. He has also participated in group shows at various institutions such as the Seongnam Art Center, the Mongin Art Center, the Gwangju Museum of Art, and the Seoul Museum of Art. He won the grand prize at the 26th Joongang Fine Arts Prize in 2004, and was a resident at the first Mongin Art Space Residency, the MMCA Goyang Residency, the Cite Internationale des Arts Residency, and the SeMA Nanji Residency.
홍정표(B.1976)는 일상과 예술의 경계를 실험하며, 현대미술과 예술행위에 대한 근원적인 고민을 개념적으로 풀어내는 작업을 한다. ‘Hidden Edge’ 시리즈는 사각형의 프레임을 제작하기 위한 계획이 작가가 세운 규칙에 의해 끊임없는 수정과 보완을 거치게 되고 결국 처음 의도와는 다른 형상이 되는 작품이다. 액자의 기능에서 벗어났지만, 순수한 조형미를 가진 작품으로 탄생되는 순간, 작가는 ‘예술이란 무엇인가?’라고 다시 되묻는다.
홍익대학교 미술대학 조소과를 졸업하고, 동대학원에서 조소전공으로 석사학위를 받았다. 작가는 표갤러리, 탈영역우정국, 313아트프로젝트에서 개인전을 열고, 성남아트센터, 몽인아트센터, 광주시립미술관, 서울시립미술관 등 다양한 기관의 그룹전에 참여했다. 2004년 제 26회 중앙미술대전에서 대상을 수상하고, 제1기 몽인아트 스페이스 입주작가, 국립현대미술관 고양레지던시, 파리 국제예술공동체 입주작가, 난지 미술창작스튜디오 입주작가로 활동했다.
