Jang Hyojoo (B. 1988) questions today's visual experience, which is primarily conducted through the screens of cell phones and monitors. Through her experimental sculptural works, Jang explores the gap between the experience of encountering digital images and the real world. The unfamiliar images she presents by combining sculptural materials and everyday objects function as a portal between the virtual and real in her works, allowing viewers to perceive sculpture in a new light.
Jang Hyojoo graduated from Kookmin University with a major in sculpture and studied in the Meisterschülerin program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Following solo exhibitions in Munich in 2021 and Seoul in 2022, Jang was selected as the artist for G Gallery's 2024 edition of Great Exhibition, a program to foster emerging artists, and will be holding her third solo exhibition, Invisible to the Naked Eye. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions including those at the Ulsan Art Museum, DOOSAN GALLERY, WESS, and the Münchner Stadtmuseum, and her works are in the collections of the Ulsan Art Museum and Artothek & Bildersaal.
장효주(B. 1988)는 주로 휴대폰과 모니터 화면을 통해 이루어지는 오늘날의 시각 경험에 대해 질문을 던진다. 디지털 이미지를 접하는 경험이 현실에서 실제와 대면하는 상황과 벌어지는 간격에 대한 고민을 실험적인 조각 작업으로 선보인다. 조각적 재료와 일상적 사물을 결합하여 제시하는 낯선 이미지는 그의 작품에서 가상과 현실을 연결하는 포털(portal)의 기능을 하며 조각을 새로운 감각으로 인지하게 한다.
장효주는 국민대학교 입체미술 전공 졸업 후, 뮌헨조형미술대학에서 마이스터슐러린 과정을 수학하였다. 2021년 뮌헨, 2022년 서울에서 열린 개인전에 이어 2024년 G Gallery의 신진 작가 육성 프로그램 Great Exhibition의 작가로 선정 되어 세 번째 개인전 《육안으로는 관찰하기 어렵습니다》를 진행 예정이다. 그 외 울산시립미술관, 두산갤러리, 웨스, 뮌헨시립미술관 등에서 개최한 다수의 그룹전에 참여했으며, 울산시립미술관과 뮌헨시립갤러리에 작품이 소장되어 있다.
