Jung Jin (B. 1984) toes the line between fantasy and reality through her pieces of simple cartoon characters and dense, pictorial landscapes. The cartoonish lines often featured in her paintings add to the psychology of confusion and anxiety; emotions that are prevalent in her work. The multi-layered images shown on the screen seem to hint to the possibility of moral interpretation, but it is impossible to construct a narrative, as the portrayed scenes only allow for fragmentary guesses. The artist emphasizes the two-dimensional nature of her works through the ‘folded screens’ made by partially cutting out segments of a painting, yet, paradoxically presents the existence of another dimension under the surface by pasting different images under the cut-out flaps.

Jung Jin received her B.F.A. and M.F.A. in painting from Seoul National University, and has since shown her work at multiple solo shows including Gallery Dos in 2015, Artspace Loo in 2018, and Kumho Museum of Art in 2021. She has also participated in a number of group shows including that of the Yeongeun Museum of Art, the Suwon Museum of Art, and One & J Plus One. Jung Jin has also been a resident at prestigious residencies such as the Unjung Art Studio Residency, the OCI Museum of Art Residency, the Suwon Art Studio Pureunjidae Changjak Saemteo Residency, and currently, the Can Foundation Residency. Jung was selected as the 18th Kumho Young Artist in 2020 and was the winning artist of Art Gyeonggi in 2020.
