Lee Mijung (B. 1988) creates flexible ‘stage-scenes’ which she uses to depict her experiences as a young woman living in contemporary society. Lee approaches heavy subjects with a whimsical and humorous attitude, creating pieces that convey simple yet significant messages. Her work varies from two-dimensional paintings to sculptures, standing independent from the gallery walls, at times disguising themselves as decorations or interior elements. Lee Mijung's paintings are sometimes implemented as physical spaces away from the familiar planes of a two-dimensional surface, showing variability that can be differentiated into multiple modules and gathered in different forms, which implies infinite expansion beyond paintings and sculptures.
Lee Mijung majored in Ceramic and Glass and Painting at Hongik University, and has held solo shows at institutions such as Artspace Hue in 2017, Art Delight in 2018, and Songeun Art Cube in 2020. She has also participated in a number of group shows, including the Mullae Art Space, the Ilmin Museum of art, and the Chuntaeil Memorial Hall, and was a selected artist for the Seoul Foundation for Art and Culture’s Artist Support Program and the Songeun Art Cube’s Artist Support Program. She has also been a resident of the KdMoFA Residency in Taiwan, and the SeMA Nanji Residency and the MMCA Residency Goyang in Korea. Lee’s works have been collected by the OCI Museum, the MMCA, and the KdMoFA.
이미정(B.1988)은 청년이자 여성으로서 자신이 경험하는 동시대 상황을 담은 이미지를 회화적 오브제로 만들고 이를 연극적 무대로 연출한다. 무거운 주제이지만 어둡지 않고 유머러스 하게 접근하며, 간결하지만 메시지를 담은 작가의 작품은 때로는 인테리어적 요소를 노골적으로 드러내고 장식품으로 위장하며 때로는 갤러리 벽에서 벗어나 조각처럼 서 있는 두꺼운 그림의 형태로 등장한다. 이미정의 회화는 평면에서 벗어나 물리적인 공간으로 구현되기도하며, 여러 모듈로 분화되고 또 다른 형태로 모일 수 있는 가변성을 보여주며 이를 통해 회화, 조각을 넘어선 무한한 확장 가능성을 내포하고 있다.
이미정은 홍익대학교 도예유리과, 회화과를 졸업하고, 2017년 아트스페이스 휴, 2018년 아트딜라이트, 2020년 송은아트큐브 에서 개인전을 열었다. 문래예술공장, 일민미술관, 전태일기념관 등 다수의 그룹전에 참여하고, 서울문화재단 예술창작활동 지원작가, 송은아트큐브 전시지원작가로 선정된 바 있다. 서울시립미술관 난지창작미술 스튜디오, 국립현대미술관 고양레지던시 입주작가로 참여하고, OCI미술관, 국립현대미술관, 대만의 관두미술관에 작품이 소장되어있다.
